Computer and Internet Policy
The Library provides laptop and desktop computers for patrons use.
The Library provides Internet access through the Library desktop and laptop computers. WiFi is available for patrons with their own devices.
Desktop computers are available for 90-minute time periods during regular Library hours. Additional time may be assigned if no other patron is waiting to use the computer. Generally, only one patron will be allowed on a desktop computer at one time, absent permission from Library staff. Patrons using the computer lab must respect the privacy of other computer users.
Laptop computers may be checked out to patrons with adult library cards for use in the Library building only and may not be left unattended.
Printers are available to patrons using the Library’s computer and Wi-Fi resources. All use of Library printers must comply with this policy and applicable law. Patrons are responsible for the cost of printing. Printing costs are detailed at the front desk.
While the Library will respect users’ privacy confidentiality as required by law, users should not expect total anonymity or privacy with respect to their use of the Library’s Computing and Internet systems. All users of Library computers, including patrons and staff, are prohibited from using any Library computer for unlawful or criminal purpose. The Library reserves the right to contact law enforcement where, in the Library’s reasonable judgment, an individual has engaged in suspicious use of the Library’s computing systems. While not an exhaustive list, users may not engage in the following while using a Library computer:
-
Use the computer for any purpose that violates federal, state or local law.
-
Use the computer to gain or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any computer device, network or other resources.

Use the computer in a manner inconsistent with the Library's proper operation or to view or transmit illegal sexually explicit materials.

Parents and legal guardians are responsible for supervising content viewed by children on the Library’s computer and internet networks. Parents and guardians should provide guidance to their children as to the Internet, and supervise any Internet sessions as necessary. The Library recommends that children are instructed as to the Rules for Online Safety recommended by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The Library is not responsible for the content of any information obtained from the Internet, other than the information on the Library's web page.
Library staff will provide general information on the settings necessary to access the Internet via the Wi-Fi network, but are not responsible for any changes users make to their computer settings and cannot guarantee that a user's hardware will work with the Library's network.
Use of the internet on Library computers or using the Library's Wi-Fi network is not secure. Third parties may be able to obtain information regarding a user's activities. Any information being sent or received could potentially be intercepted. Users should exercise caution in their use of the Internet at the Library, including with respect to transmitting credit card information, passwords and any other sensitive personal information.
The Library will not be responsible for any damages or loss relating to a patron's use of the Internet on Library premises, including with respect to personal information (e.g. credit card) that is compromised, or for any damage caused to your hardware or software due to electric surges, security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking. All users should have up-to-date virus protection on their personal laptop computers or devices.
The Library may limit or restrict downloading files or data onto Library computers. The Library reserves the right to limit the amount of time a user may use computer resources. The Library is not responsible for loss of patron data, or any damage or liability that may occur from a patron's use of a Library computer. Users are responsible for the replacement or repair of lost or damaged computers or related equipment. Further, information concerning a patron's use of Library computer resources may be used by the Library as required by law or as necessary for the operation of the Library.
The Library reserves the right to take appropriate action to ensure compliance with this Policy. Any misuse of Library computer resources or other violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including the loss or suspension of privileges or removal from the Library. Unlawful activities will be addressed in an appropriate matter, including but not limited to reporting to the authorities.
